SOUTHERN MARKETS. A Christcliurch telegram says: —The markets generally are very quiet, although neither the railway curtailment nor the wet weather that prevailed (luring the week are to any extent responsible. The weather has, of course, made growers more firm in holding oats and chaff, and supplies are not offering. However, there is not a keen inquiry for oats at the present time, and a report is current that the market is weaker, though inquiries have not confirmed this.

The line weather experienced during the greater part of June and the more plentiful offerings during that time enabled merchants and dealers to accumulate stocks of chaff, which have been supplied so far to meet local demands. The market for chaff is a purely local one, and is able to absorb supplies available. Quotations for shipping are lower in the south and Blenheim than here. ' Bad weather has increased the demand, but buyers are still not keen to offer more than £6 to'■■£« ss, country stations, though sellers are not willing to accept less than £t> 10s. Some are asking as high as £7 and £7 10s. The potato market is still quiet, though there is a little more inquiry. and the price now quoted is £0 to £ti 6s,

country stations. There is no change in clover seed prices, red being firm and white inclined to be a little easier. The high price which linseed has readied is affecting the demand and sales are not now to easy to effect.
