OTAKI BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club was held at the Druids' Hall on Wednesday night, when hi'leen members were in attendance. The report (published in previous ' issue) and balance-sheet were read and considered satisfactory."
Mr J. Muir, the club's delegate, reported on various matters arising at the Centre meetings. It was decided to thank Mrs Best for a gift of debentures and bowls,' willed to tho club by her late father. The following oflicers were elected: —Patron, Br. Hulbwaitc (re-elected); , president, Mr D. Noble; vice-president, Mr Wesley Knight; secretary, MiHarry Witchcll (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr M. U. Ayro (re-elected); treasurer, Mr A. Satherley (re-elected); j auditor, Mr Dando (re-elected); gene- j ral committee, Messrs Ayre, Bills, Bax, J Kilmistcr, and Rev. Pctrie; green com- * mittce, Messrs A. The Chairman took the opportunity of thanking Mr Muir, the club's previous delegate, for tLo interest he had displayed on behalf of the club, and pointed out that it was thought advisable to have a local man for tho position in future. He had no doubt but that tho new delegate would do good work.
The appointment of caretaker was left in abeyance. Mr Witchcll's notice of motion that mlc 11 be altered so that the annual meetings be held nearest the full moon iu June instead of July, and that the financial year end on April 30th instead of May olst, was carried without dis-
cussion. It was decided, provided permission was granted, to hold a rink tournament at Easter, embracing Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. The following new members wcro proposed:—Messrs W. F. Russling, H. L. Beauchamp, A. A. Brown, Dudderidgc. Atniore, W. Dalzicll, S. Sievers, H. ,T. Palmer. The question of having all bowls J tested was raised by Mr Bills, it being j pointed out that testing must be done j before tho bowls could be used in tour- J naments.—Matter left in tho hands of j the delegate to make necessary arrange- j raents. On the motion of Mr Knight it was decided that the subscription to join the Croquet Club bo 10s 6d. and that members be honorary members of the Bowling Club. The suggestion by Mr O'Rourke that a small pavilion bo erected for croquet members was supported, and it was decided to leave the matter as a recommendation to the committee. It was decided to make the refreshment levy 5s a year, instead of 2s 6d, as formerly. . Mr Noble's suggestion that older players coach the younger players was considered a good one. but no definite j action was taken. One member stated | that he had been a member of the club j fo* two years before he learned the J game, and it was only then by playing against a Wellington team that he pick- ; I ed up the essential points. It was decided to secure sixteen new mats, it being considered that the present ones were detrimental to the grass on the rinks, also to present prizes won by members at the ball to be held on July 16th. The Chairman warmly thanned all members for their support,to him as president during the year, and -hoped thev would continue to gather round the" flag, and make the coming season as successful as the past. On his motion a vote of thanks was accorded to the "Mail." It was decided to accept a challenge for a game of progressive euchre, ir;ued iby the Druids' Ledge,- the natch to 1 take- place on Wednesday next..
