Tho first of the championship h»*koy matches for this season eventuated en the Otaki Domain on Wednesday, when representatives of tho local club met those from Te Horo. The game opened briskly, and play, in the first half, was of an even nature, the visitors having •an advantage of one goal only— 2-1. Early in the second half Otaki evened matters, and the game promised to be ian exciting one. Spectators, however, were doomed to disappointment, Te . Horo by superior combination easily eclipsed the play of the local youths, end in record time added no lees than five goats, making the score 7-2. The visitors were better in all departments, but still there is room for'-improvement. Otaki "were “at sea” most of the game. The forwards played a back game, while some of the backs were well ia the vanguard, consequently combination wax entirely laeking, while speculation was far too frequent. At the same time, however, good play was witnessed occasionally, and with a little practice the team should prove a hard one to beat. Messrs Harold Small and Ilemana acted as referees..
