Sir T. Mackenzie, High Commissioner for New Zealand, has been offered tho honorary degree of LL.B. (Doctor of Laws) of Edinburgh.
Miss Rena Te Au, the well-known singer, late of Otaki, was married on Sunday at Opunako to Mr Joseph .Beaton, of Tuatapiri, Southland. The ceremony took, place at tho residence of the Rev. H. N. Papakakuru, who officiated.
Mr O. Pragneil, who has been holiday making at Otaki’s popiilur seaside resort for health reasons, returned to Masterton to-day, after a month’s pleasant sojourn. Mr Pragneil, who has been chairman of the Fire Board at Masterton, has resigned on account of his health.
Lieut. Walter Taylor (sou of Mr and .Mrs G. W. Taylor, Otaki) is aboard the Trenzessin, due to arrive in New Zealand on the 25th inst. Recently Mr and Mrs Taylor had word that their son, Private Wro. Taylor, was on his way back, but it appears an error was made in the initials-—it should have been Lieut. Walter Taylor.
Mr T. Runnier, who has been one of the foremost members of the Fox ton Bowling Club, was entertained on Wednesday and , presented with a case of pipes. Mr Dimmer intends leaving the district to take up farming in the Taunts ga district.
• Mr Charles Hill, sen., one of Wellington’* most respected citizens, celebrated his 87th birthday yesterday, and received a large number of congratulations from various porta of the Domin- ; ion. Mr Hill has been president of the Te Hiwi Bowling Club for some years, and still enjoys a game on the Island Bay green.
