OTAKI FIRE BRIGADE.
The monthly meeting of the Otaki Fire Brigade was held at the station on AVednesday - night, Second-Lieutenant E. Irvine, in the unavoidable absence of Captain Bassett (who sent an apology), presiding. There was only a small attendance of members. It was reported that -the flag-pole was almost- ready to be erected, while a donation of £1 had been received from Mr J. >S. Pole. A donation of a bicycle from Mr A. 11. Hill (who also forwarded. his resignation on account of leaving the district) was received. It was decided to thank' both donors for their generosity. Messrs Reid and Reid wrote stating {that no hand-pumps were at present { available, while the secretary reported J that he had received no communication I } from- the Town Board relative to a j ! grand. He understood, however, that
one of;£2s had been made, and it was decided to ask that the amount be passed -for payment so that the Brigade would be in a position to wipe off part of its debt. ■ On the suggestion of the chairman it was, decided jto wait on Mr McMil-lan,-picture proprietor, with a view of securing liis assistance to tub a picture entertainment for the purpose of raising funds for the brigade, and Lieutenants Wells and Irvine were appointed to make the necessary arrangements. It was also decided to hold a euchre tournament pith members of the Druids’ Lodge, and arrangements for this was left in the hands of Firemen Mathie and Nicolson. Mr Harold Knox was admitted as a member of' the brigade and Mr .T. Gillespie proposed. Routine business was also transacted.
