OTAKI BOWLING CLUB
BALL TO BE HELD. CROQUET CLUB TO BE FORMED. A meeting of members of the,Otaki Bowling Club, and ladies interested in the formation of a croquet club and the holding of a bowlers’ ball was held in the Druids’ Hall on Wednesday night. Some twenty persons were present, and the President (Mr M. H. Ayrc) occupied the chair. After explaining the objects of the meeting, and commending the ladies for good work accomplished in the past, the chairman invited suggestions.
Mr Witchcll, secretary, pointed out that if it was decided to form a croquet club an outlay of about £ls would be necessary to purchase a double ei coquet set, but, eventually, in his opinion, ladies would supply their own mallets. He suggested a committee be elected to go further into the matter, advocating at, the same time that, the financial arrangements be left to the Bowling Club. Hr Sathcrlcy said the ground for a croquet lawn, with a little more attention, would be playable immediately. After a free discussion Mr G. .Noble proposed, and Mr J. R. Bills seconded, and it was carried, that the ground be put in good order for croquet, and that those wishing to join be admitted at 5s each. 0 The chairman suggested the ladies form themselves into n committee, and this was’agreed to, those present (Mendupes Bills, Satlierloy, and Webster) being empowered to add to their number.
Dealing with the ball, proposed to be held in the Theatre, Mr Sathcrlcy pointed out that in past years the function had always proved both a social and financial success, and if worked on the proper lines sufficient money could be raised to do necessary works both on the bowling green and croquet lawn. He supported the. Committee in its desire to hold the ball. This was agreed to by others, and on the motion of Mr Noble, seconded by Mr Webster, Mr Sathcrlcy was unanimously appointed Secretary, while Mcsdames Bills, Sathcrlcy, Webster, Messrs Noble, Bills, Smith, Watts, Kilmistcr, Olliver, and St. George, were elected a committee.
It was decided to hold the function on Wednesday, July .16, prices for admission to be 10s (id double ticket, 7s (id single gent’s and 3s (id extra Indy’S. It was suggested that a local orchestra be secured to supply the music (four instruments) but this was a matter that will be' dicussed by the Committee.
