BOWLING.
j Thanks to. ,the generosity of Alessr ;A. Safherley v and J. D. Howell, wh gave two fu% trophies (a pocket while i and a tobacco pouch respectively) some splendid sport was indulged ii among bowlers at • the local green oi j Friday last, when the “colts” had ; ! day out. Owing to tho day being : j holiday, some players were out of town while others were prevented from at tending for other reasons. In view o: this entries were not so large as other wise would have been tlie case. How , ever, the. green was keen, and player: 1 were out for sport. J. Skelley prove< the winner, beating G. Bramley in tin filial by the narrow margin of twi points. The game was a splendid one interesting throughout, and deeidcdlj keen. Skelley got tho better of his op ponerit iu the opening stages, but on the third head Bramley led. It was shortlived, however, as on the next head Skelley scored three, making the game 5-4. He added a two and a single on i the next two. heads, 8-4, and after Bramley had scored a single, ran the game to 10--5, but on the 14th head Bramley had a lead of one—l 2-11. Tho 15tli head evened matters, Bramlcy had two lead on the 16th, the 17th head was even, Bramley led by one on ftlio 18tli, then Skelley made the total 15 al). On the first three heads he added further by three singles, and thus won a well-fought game. Skelley liad previously defeated Larkin by the narrow margin of three points, 18-15, while, strange to say, B-ramloy also secured a three-point victory, beating A. Smith IS-15. Of tho other games A,. Smith defeated AV. Baker 22-13, and Bramley beat Knight 21-19. At the finish of the contest the president of the club (Air At. H. Ayrc) congratulated the players ou their play, and advised the senior members ;to “look to their laurels,” otherwise there would be a big chance of losing them. Afternoon tea, presided over by Aliss Smith, added 'greatly to the day’s outing.
TOWN V. COUNTRY. A deal of interest was manifested on the Otaki bowling green on Saturday, when a match, Town v. Country, was played. The “townies” proved no class for their oppjonents, who won both games easily. Gooding, Canning, AlcAlorran and AVindlcy literally walked away with Nicliolls, Bramley, Bills, and Sathcrlcy, 2S-12. AVindlcy opened with a five shot, which must have demoralised his opponents, who only managed to score occasionally—in fact, the winners consider their oppoinents lucky to score at all. '
Knight, Brown, Noble and Olliver only won from A. Smith, AVitche.il, Petrie and O’Rourke by four—2s-21'. Olliver must, however, have' put up something in the shape of a record, as of the 25 only two singles were registered. There was a five, no loss than three fours and three twos. Further, he only scored on nine heads out of 21. His opponents scored on 12 heads.
