PAEKAKARIKI.
A largely attended meeting of the Paekakariki branch of the A.S.E.S. was held yesterday, when a motion of no confidence in the general secretary and president was carried unanimously. The men maintain that the conditions as accepted by them put them back to where they were twenty years ago. A proposal was also sent to the executive with a view of federation with the loco. men.
The loco, men held a meeting on Saturday night and another yesterday. Every member being present a ballot was taken to decide to what action will be taken if the Department refuse their demands.
Mr - J. Robertson, cx-M.P., visited Paekakariki on Sunday and gave an address on prohibition. 'He received a good hearing till towards the. end when trouble arose.
A meeting will jo held en Simfiay next with a view of fonxpag a branch of »th<? labor party a * Paekakariki. A rumour is afloat that Mr VT. Howell is standing in the labor interest at the coming Otaki election. In some quarters he is a much favored candidate.
