Miss Moncrieff,' a visitor to New Zealand from tho United States, is on avisit to Otaki, staying with her sister, Mrs W. Burns Smith.

Mr J. Burn's, for some years on tho staff .of the Levin High School, has been appointed headmaster of the Karori school.

Mr and Mrs G. N. Stephenson were royally entertained on Friday evening by Shannon rcsidonte, and made tho recipients of valuable presentations, Mr. and Mrs Stephenson now reside in Palmerston North. -

On Saturday at the opening of the golfing season, Mr tho popular and energetic secretary of the club; was presented with a very vyluablo piece of silver plate, in recognition of his many years of faithful service to the elub. The president (Mr W. H. Sinicox) delegated his duties to the club captain, and in making the presentation Mr Byron Brown referred to the fine sporting qualities of Mr Hoxikins, whose sincere and faithful attention to duties had done so much to hold tho club togetherj especially whilo so many of- its members wore at the front doing their duty to .the Empire. The presentation was not in any way an attempt to make any payment for services, but a memento of tho sincere appreciation of Mr Hopkins' hard work and sacrifices in the cause of golf in general. Mr Hopkins responded in a, few well chosen words and expressed his desire to still further serve tho elub,
