Mr J. P. Luke, in reply- to an influential deputation, has consented to seek re-election for .the Wellington mayoralty.
Miss Mita Taylor, of Otaki, underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Otaki Hospital on Wednesday last. She is doing very nicely. The many friends in Otaki and district will be glad to hear that Private G. Freeman, of Otaki, has been removed from the seriously ill list. This soldier has had a very trying time, and has been very ill indeed for some time past.' -
Friends in Otaki have received advice that Private Sam Cook, who left yew Zealand with the New Zealand Pioneer Battalion, and has been on active service ever since, is returning with the Westmoreland, which is expected to arrive In Auckland on or about April sth, - A send-ofr is to be accorded Mr and Mrs Jep son and Mr and-Mrs . HIM at Waihoanga to-night. .AH ,ate wellknown and highly esteemed settler*, and their loss to the district will be severely felt. Mr and-Mrs fic-pson retire to a small holding at while Mr and Mrs Hill will probably settle at "Levin.
