Mr A. J. Joblin announces himself as a candidate for the Bangitikei scat at the general election. A memorial service was hold, at the Levin Presbyterian 'Church on Sunday, when eulogistic reference was made to the lale Rev. -J. White. Mrs ,T. ,T. Booth, at one time a.resident Of Otaki, but now in California, had the misfortune recently to fall and break two ribs. - ■- Miss M. A. Bnrbush has been appointed to the position of assistant teacher at the Otaki State school dur-. ing the period of Miss Miller's leave of absence. - * News was received by the last mail that the Pioneer Battalion had made application for Nurse Lewis to return home in the same boat as the Maoris. The Pioneers are due to arrive hero early next month. Mr Walter Axnp, who has been manager Of the McDonald estate at Hcathcrlca for some years, shortly leaves the district to take over a managerial position elsewhere. Mr Percy Gillies, yko had the misfortune recently to fracture a leg through falling over a bridge at Waipawa, returned to his home at Otaki yesterday. He is making a good recovery. Mr and-Mrs Archie Askew, who have been residents of this district for some time, during which they have proved very popular, leave for England by the Moana on Wednesday next. Mr and Mrs Askew will remain in the Homeland for some months at least, but their movements after that are at present uncertain. Wo regret to learn that Jit ] Askew's father, who is in England, is in indifferent health.
