PERSONAL.

* Miss Winter, of Duncdin, is at present on a holiday visit, in the guest of Mrs Ernest Brown. Dr. Baird. of Oamaru. is at present enjoying a holiday in this district, "after having suffered a. severe loss through the influenza epidemic. Mr P. A. D. Mickle, who has had a lengthy spell of illness, ha's made an excellent recovery since his operation, and is now feeling quite himself again.

| Among the visitors to Wednesday's i garden party at Manakau were Major ' Naughton, of the Permanent Staff, and i Lieut. Norbcrry, chief electrician of the \arious camps. Both have been ] the guests of Major Tatum.

Sergeant Pat Ferguson and Private Lvn Murray, two Otaki boys who have been in Egypt almost since the outbreak of war, are expected back at an early date. -The latter has had a bad run'of ill-health, but it is hoped the sea voyage will be beneficial.

Mr and Mrs W. H. Keynolds, of Otaki, who have disposed of their property,'intend going to the Old Country. tor a trip, and will probably leave in May next. Both" Mr and Mrs Reynolds have proved »iost useful citizens, and will be particularly missed in horticultural circles. .

Trooper I. Hedditch. brother of Mr C. H. G. Hedditch, of this town, is at present visiting Otaki. Trooper Hed- : ditch, who served in Egypt for a con- . sidcrablc time, leaving with one of the earliest reinforcements, had a bad run , of ill-health, and bis life was despaired j of. He is, however, now much improved.
