Mrs L. Sr. George, of Otaki, is at present spending a holiday in Wanganui.
Mr and Mrs J. Hildreth leave Otaki on Friday, and will tour parts of the north before settling down in distant parts. -
Mrs Row and Mrs MatEieson (Kongotea), mother and sister of Mr W. J. Row respectively, are at present on a visit to Otaki.
Miss Sealey, matron of the Otaki Hospital, is at present in Nelson, enjoying her annual leave. Sister Pownall is in charge of the institution.
Mr A. E. Anderson, who has been under treatment at Rotorua for the past three weeks, returned to Otaki last night, much benefited. Mrs E. T. Daniel, after spending a most enjoyable holiday at Wanganui and Palmerston, is on a visit to Otaki, combining business with pleasure.
Mr W. -T. Row, who has been on a motor tour, returned to Otaki on Sunday evening. During his trip ho visited Wanganui, where he made an excursion up the river.
The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Mrs Reeves, widow of the late Hon. William Reeves, of the "Lyttelton Times,” and mother of the Hon. W. P. Reeves, at one time AgentGeneral for New Zealand in London.
Mr P. A. Gillies, who has resided in this district for a number of years, has decided to take up residence in the Hawke’s Bay district, where he ha* secured a fine holdißg. Both Mr and Mrs Gillies will be much missed, and they carry with them the best of good wishes.
The many friends of Sergt. A. 35. Budkin (M.M.) will bo pleased to learn that he is making good improvement under treatment at Rotorui. His injured arm,' which is being massaged, and treated in the "Whirlpool,” is much better, and he has. hopes of early discharge. It is f probable that Sergt. Rudkin will again take up duties at the Otaki State School.
“Mr and Mrs Bradley, who have been resident* of Kahui, Otaki, for some considerable rime, left on Wednesday to *ake up residence in Wellington, prior to settling in Sydney. They were farewelled by a number ox friends, all ox whom regret their departure from this district. Mr Dan Bradley left for tne Empire City last night.
Private Joe Glentworth, brother to Mr R. W. Qlentwortb, of Otaki, who was invalided home several month* ago, is still receiving treatment at causes him mtmh trouble,, it is it will be some considerable time" beforehe will be able to use u with advantage.
Mr C. S. Williams returned to Otaki v--*‘erdav after a trip north, where he visited the Waitotao caves and the thermal regions. Mr and Mrs C. Miss. Miller, who, for the" past six years, has proved one of the most popular and efficient teachers at the Otaki State school, has temporarily severed her connection with that insti-
tution for the purpose of spending the major part o'f a year with relatives in England. Miss Miller, who is at present with her parents in Pakiatua, expects to leave Wellington by the Ruapehu on the 11th inst. Prior to leaving Otaki Miss Miller was made the rc< eipicut of a liandsbmo presentation.
A “farewell tea” was yesterday afternoon accorded to Mrs P. A. Gillies,' who is shortly leaving the district, at the residence of Mrs J. G. Stevens. There was a large number of Mrs Gillies’ most intimate friends present, and the day proved an enjoyable one, the bright sunshine adding materially to the outing. Mrs Gillies, who will be much missed, was the recipient of a handsome presentation, viz., a travelling bag and silver photo frame. The gifts were gracefully acknowledged. The aftejgioon passed all too quickly, and'many were the regrets at the time of departure. During the day Mrs R. M. D’Ath greatly delighted the assemblage by singing quite a number of songs. She was in excellent voice, and each and every item was thoroughly appreciated. Mrs Blatkwnyt (violin) and Mrs Temple Page (piano) gave | pleasing selections, while little Miss Majorie Stevens was highly praised I for her sweet singing. Afternoon tea I was served and enjoyed by all.
