A RIKTORANGI MATTER.
To the Editor. Sir, —My attention has been drawn to a letter in your issue of the 21st instil under the-above heading, and ai>pearing over the name John Rassmussen. My statement at the Council meeting was to this effect- That Mr Rassmusscn had taken, over, a section of nine hundred acres that bore a Government valuation cf 10s per acre at the'time he entered in possession—obviously he would not be paying 10s per acre rental. My object in-men-tioning this was to show the Council that the amount of rates from this property was very small. The Council in framing this the current year’s estimates, agreed to subsidise Mr Rassmusscn’s efforts in forming the road to the extent of £4O, half of which he has already received. I have no doubt that assistance will bo forthcoming during next year. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc..
G. ALEX. MONK, County Chairman Rikiorangi,' February 24, 1919.
