PEACE MEMORIAL.

To pia Editor. Sir, —I note your invitation for correspondence upon tho above subject, after desultory discussion of tho same at tho Patriotic Society meeting. What seemed to me a bright idea flitted across my mental vision, and without much reflection is. was sent to you, and seemed to And rest and oblivion in your columns. Lo! hero we are again. But even the “Great Peace" now looks ns if it may provo somewhat of a fiasco. My inclination is to let someone else now have a no. It I s to be admitted, however, that while it may be a useful beginning to encourage and entertain ideas and ideals in this way which may prove of “pith and moment” when they win (and not lose) tho name of action, not only should we ontertai* ideals when worthy, wo must also sweat and bleed for them; and—let us ednfess it—such labourers and fighters are Cow. Nevertheless, continuity of agitation at length may give success te the ideal, to us, or to Others —wkut_ matter? To-morrow, next year, next century, or even next age, what matter? Let "us do our bit. It seemed to me, that here was a great- call to small communities, hut they appear to have made almost no response. Then, Sir, wo must got to work with the spado (the few) and entrench, so that at, least we shall not retreat, and may advance later. Will you, Sir, continue to keep this steadily in view, since locally the burden must fall chiofly upon you.—l am, etc., EVELYN MACDONALD. To Horo, Feb. 19, 1919.
