Mrs J. S. Pole, of Qtaki, who has boon in an indifferent state of health for some time, has decided to take up temporary residence at Otaki’s “quadrangle." Sir R. AV. McVilly, Assistant-General Alanagcr of Railways, has been appointed General Manager as from 30th April next, when the present manager, Mr E. H. Hiley, will retire. The death occurred on Friday night at Levin of Mr Joe Rose, an old resident known throughout- the county; Deceased, who was found dead in his whare, leaves a grown-up family to mourn tlicir loss. The Rev. AV. AYilliams, a Maori missionary in this district, conducted the services at All Saints’ Church last night, and gave a most earnest address, which was listened to with much attention. Mrs E. T. Daniel, who has been on a visit to Otaki, returned to AA’ellington on Friday night. Mrs Daniel, aecom- . panied by her daughter (Mrs C. H. Mcj Gill) will shortly leave for AVangunui ! on holiday. Mr and Mrs Albert Smith’ have returned to Otaki, after spending a most I enjoyable holiday in Eketahuua, AuckI land, and various parts of the Auck- ; land district. Mr Smith’s many friends ; will be pleased to hear that he has now i fully regained his health, j Mrs J. D. Brown, of Olxau, who has been on a visit to Rotorua, has return|ed home much benefited in health. Mr ! Brown, who suffered severely in an aej cident some time ago, will remain a ■ few weeks longer in Rotorua for modi- ' cal treatment.
Miss Booth, of Rahui, Otaki,'left oil Saturday morning to take lip duties at the military convalescent home at AVunganui, as a ALA.D. This lady deserves every credit for taking up such useful work for the soldiers, and her many friends in Otaki and district will wish ■her all suecoss in her work. Mr A. E. Anderson, of Otaki, who has been suffering from sciatica for some time past, left this morning for Rotorua, where he will undergo treatment and spend a well-earned holiday.
