PERSONAL.

Mr P. W. Goldsmith, the County Cierk, is at present enjoying a few days’ leave and is visiting the Main Trunk line.

Mr and Mrs W. Kilsby and family, of Hautcre Road, are at present residing at (heir Levin homestead. The Levin paper reports that they have disposed of their Hautcre property, and will reside permanently at Levin.

I The death occurred at Masakau Iyesterday of Mrs Falconer, mother of Mrs H. G. Swainson. Deceased, who was Si years old, has been in Manafcau for several years, and an invalid for a considerable time. The late Mrs Falconer will be buried at Pahiatua.

Private Woolley, late of Otaki Rail way. who was invalided home some time ago, and has been at Rotorua for treatment, is on a visit to Otaki to day. He is still far from well. Private Fred Dorset writing by tb last mail, states he was in Tidmouth Hospital suffering from congestion of the lungs. He was, however, improving. His brother, Stan, has been promoted to sergeant, and was in excellent health and spirits. Pte. “Dag.” HowelL son of the '■'Mayor of Paraparaumu. ’ 7 and a most popular young resident of that township, returned to New Zealand by the Buahine last week, and has been cordially welcomed home to Paraparaumu. Pte. Howell who was on aetive service for over two years and a half, had rather a bad spell, being on the sick list and in hospital for many months. We are glad to know that he is now much better, and showing improvement. The funeral of the late Mr -Jas. Best took place at Otaki on Saturday afternoon last, when the universal estcezn in which deceased was held was shown by the very large and representative attendance, whieh included representatives of practically every household i in Te H mo. and a considerable number ox Otaki and district residents; also several from distant parts. A short service was conducted at the Te Hero Methodist Church by the Rev. Hedley White, who also -officiated et the graveside, the service being an impressive one. Tie Rev. ~Whi te made a few appropriate reatsrks with reference to the- deceased and his labours. for the church he laved. A great many very beautiful wreaths, etc.-, •were pls-eed on pas&efc,
