Miss Scaly, who lias been in indifferent health for some time, has, we aro pleased to state, resumed her duties as matron of the Otaki Hospital. - Mr Marshall, who'has for some years past been associated with the Railway Department as a guard at Cross Creek, has resigned in order to take up farming at Otaki. —“Carterton News.” Mr John Montague, who was thrown , from a motor at Otaki recently, is still in the hospital here. He is, however, making satisfactory progress. f Mrs Robertson, who was injured in a motor-bar accident on the IVsknkuriki Hill some time ago, is still in the Otaki Hospital, but it is satisfactory to knew slio is making a good recovery. The Minister of Lands/ together with Mr W. 11. Field, M.P. for Otaki, is today inspecting land at Ivukn, Oban, and elsewhere", with a view ot securing suitable areas for returned soldiers. The engagement is announced of Rifleman N. E. Hughes, Ist N.Z.R.H., fourth son of Mr and Mrs T. Hughes, of Wcraroa, Levin, to Dorothy, youngest daughter of Mr G. Allen, Canada, formerlv of Essex, England. if At the quarterly meeting of the Otaki Methodist circuit, held tft Manakau on Wednesday night, Mr Frank Penn was appointed to represent the circuit at. the. forthcoming New Zealand Conference, to commence its session at Christchurch on February 271 h. While Mr Maugham, of Otaki Railway, was in his motor launch off the Otaki bcacli last evening, liis foot slipped and-came into contact with the shaft of the engine. The injury was a painful one, and in consequence Mr Maugham is undergoing treatment at the Otaki Hospital. Luckily no bones were broken, and he will be discharged in the course of a day or so.
