OTAKI FIRE BRIGADE.
Tho monthly meeting of the members of the Otaki Fire Brigade was held at the brigade-station on Wednesday night, but tho attendance was poor. Lientonant Hill, in the unavoidable absence of the Captain?. occupied the chair. The Secretary’s report showed that the financial position of the Brigade was on a par with the last report, arid An View of this it was agreed that the canvass for subscriptions, already promised, should be carried out, and also to enrol honorary members, who would be able to attend meetings and take part in proceedings. The question of organising a social function was raised, and a suggestion that a picnic, combined with a sports’ gathering, was favorably commented upon. As many members were absent, however, no definite action was taken. It was also suggested that card tournaments be held, and thus infuse in- ; terest in brigade matters. s Messrs T. Wells, J. D. Howell, Byron Brown, J. S. Pole, and Dr. Huthwaitc were proposed as honorary members. It was decided to accord Mrs Bassett a hearty vote of thanks for supplying : arm badges, and to appoint two mem- . bers of the brigade each week to attend 1 to all brigade equipment. i ' T j At Wednesday night’s meeting of 1 the Fire Brigade Lieutenant Hill, who has displayed a deal of interest in bri- | gade matters, said it was more than j probable that his resignation would be i before the next meeting. He said it was not because he had no interest in , the brigade but simply because he \iad ! not the time to devote to it, he hav- ! ing to work from early morning till late at night.
