METHODIST CHURCH.
! : QUARTERLY MEETING. j The-quarterly meeting of officials of ' the Otaki Methodist circuit was held at Manakau on Wednesday evening, when a small attendance of members was presided over by. the Rev. Hedley White. r _ It was reported that arrangements j had been made for holding occasional services at Waihoauga and Otaki Railj day, as suggested at the last meeting. | The meeting passed votes of eondoli eneo to Mr Wcstaway, Mrs J. Morgan i (Te Horo), Mrs Robinson, Mr W. Col- ‘ ville (Manakau), Mesdamcs Hales and i Wright (Paraparaumu) in the loss of near. relatives through the recent epidemic. The balance-sheet showed ..that the deficit of the last quarter had been considerably reduced, though there was still a shortage. Considering that -the epidemic had caused a considerable 'elimination of services, and consequent loss of income, the position was I thought to bo satisfactory on the whole. The Gift Sunday, on the last Sunday ! of the quarter, had been responsible for raising a considerable, sum, though it I was expected that further donations j would still bo coming to hand, i It was resolved to ask the friends ! to hold harvest festivals in each centre • o'f the circuit, the proceeds to be devot- ! ed to the circuit fund. ! Reports of the Sunday, schools show- . ed that the various schools were in a ; fairly satisfactory condition, though | operations had been interfered. with j owing to the epidemic. Some of the ! schools had not yet resumed. It was i also reported that arrangements were | now being made for a school to bo 1 opened at I’aekakariki, a teacher being 1 available for work in that centre. ~ 1 The appointment of a missionary i agent was left in the hands of the Rev. j White and Mr G. Kirk, with power j to act. The meeting decided to place in the ! minutes its appreciation of the efforts | of the Manakau popple, whereby a substantial and beautiful church had been < erected, to replace the building destroyed by fire. The appointment of circuit stewards was held over till next meeting, when, it is hoped, there would bci a larger attendance. Next meeting was fixed for April 7th, at Te Horo.
