I Considerable interest was manifested in the extraordinary election held yesj tcrday for the return of a commissioner to fill.the vacancy caused on the Otaki Town Board occasioned by the death of the late Mr F. HortOn Bright'. Mr. R. M. D 'Ath, though he has taken no part in public affairs in the past, was afavourite for the eontest, he having [ practically a block vote of the Maoris and also of a certain section of the com-, munity.
