The synopsis Is as follows: —A woman rose to meet him with a supercillious glance and a curl of the lip. The man was Stcphan Stephanie, chief of Zandria's secret police. She was Vesta Boris, a notorious dancer of the neighbouring principality, Nordhofli and his unknown daughter. He had come to plead with her—demand of her—that she secure the .pkfris of the enemy from Count Wenzel, one of her victims. And he docs it knowing that it may cost her her life. As ho stumbles out he wonders at the marvellous character of the >voman who demands nothing in return. And then it is the woman resorts to subtle wit in the winning of the plans—for her country's sake. She gets them, but she has to murder her lover in the attempt'* Out of the country she would husten. but fate intervenes. She meets Mary Stephanie—her father's beautiful, "recognised" daughter—and her step-sister. Knowing that she will be stopped, she makes the great appeal to her sister—and Mtwy. changes places. The plans reach their destination; war 5s averted; but Mary is sentenced to death. Then from beyond the border [Vesta comes back—and this time changes place with Mary. "Greater love hath no man than this."
