HOLSTEIN-FRIESIANS.
c ‘ ‘ENEMY’ ’ NAME TO BE DROPPED. I- The “Farmers’ Advocate,” Canada, : states that it has been announced that 'the name “Holstein” as applied to black -and white cattle in Great Britain and New Zealand, has been dropped officially in those countries. The big cattle are now known as Eriesians. In South Africa they have always been called “Friesland cattle.” The British 1 Friesian Cattle Society has requested the Holstein-Friesian Association of I Canada to take similar action. It is stated that the name Holstein has been a palpable misnomer ever since it was inflicted upon the Dutch breed by a few early United States importers. From authentic records it would appear that the honour of having originated the famous black and white cattle lies rather with the Province of Friesland I than with the Province of Holstein, now part of the Dueliy of Schleswig-Hol-stein. It is anticipated that the word “Holstein” will be dropped from the. title of the Holstein-Friesian Herd Book of Australia.
