Egmont Licensing Committee.
The usual quarterly meeting of the Egmont Licensing Committee was held, at Stratford, on Friday. S.M. presiding, and Messrs Heslop, Hughes, Monkhouse, Brown, Mackay,. Mcßae and Lambie. The clerk, Constable O'Donovan, was also in attendance. Constable Byan, of Inglewood, appeared for the police. Constable Twomey, of Opunake, was also present. POLICE REPORT. The police report was then read, and on the whole was a favorable one. The question of people being able to find means of escape was referred to and Constable O'Donovan suggested that the bench should order that directions be posted up in the hotels stating how to reach the fire escapes. The S.M. said in* reference to the Oeo Hotel the licensee should be informed that the time was up for putting on a new roof. Mr Heslop thought ib very little use passing resolutions if no notice was taken of them. The S.M. thought they should inform the licensee that the license would not be renewed if the new roof was not put on. Mr Mackay thought the hotels that had not carried out the wishes of the committee should be informed that the committee considered it unsatisfactory. It was considered very objectionable for the fire escape to Jje through a room. The S.M. said the words " Fire Escape " should be painted on the door of the fire escape, and he moved a resolution instructing the clerk to communicate with the hotel referred to. Constable Ryan suggested that the committee should insist on ropes to all bedrooms whether there were verandahs or not. The S.M. proposed that the license and owner of tbc Oeo Hotel be informed that if the new roof, ordered by the committee, is not fixed by the next annual meeting his license will not be renewed.—This was carried. The clerk was also instructed to see that all fire escape doors be marked accordingly. TRANSFERS. Application was made to transfer the license of the Ofcakeho Hotel from J. McLachlan to Henry Stuart.
