Waimate Road Board.

Tbe Board met on Wednesday. Pre-:eut : Messrs McCarthy (chairman), "Badge, Pearce, Stevenson, Borrie and Watson. LAND REVENUE. The sum of £7BO lias been received from this department. DESIGNATION OF FOREMAN. The foreman tendered bis resignation owing to the feeling which seemed to exist that expenses of management should be reduced. Accepted.. KIRI ROAD. D. M. Warren wrote, requesting that something should be done to the road to allow him to get to his section, which he had occupied since 1890. —Work will be proceeded with as soon as weather is suitable. * R. Warner attended, and said that he had finished his contract three months ago, but that he could not get his money. The Foreman said that the contract had not been complied with. Referred to Mr Watson, with power to act. Resolved, That Bloomfiold and Rogers' contract be declared void, and their deposit forfeited' on account of non-compliauce with conditions. OTAKEHO. J. B. Carey wrote, asking that the Board would remove the high bank in front oE his section, to which he would subscribe £1. —Declined. RIFLE RANGE. The Manaia Rifle Club applied for use of Lower Winks Road as a rifle range. Agreed to. EGMONT FOREST RESERVE. On tbe suggestion of Mr McGuire, a resolution was passed favoring the conversion of the Forest Reserve into an inalienable National Park. • WARDS. The committee appointed to recommend ward boundaries reported that no legal division be made, but that two wards be constituted for financial purposes, having the following division line, viz., the block line between Waimate and Kaupokonui, the block line between Blocks 14, Opunake, and 18, Kaupokonui, and the Railway Reserve. foreman's report. South Road —Culvert near Oeo stream requires to be renewed. The cuttings near,same require improvement ; cost, £B. Rowan Road—Several dangerous holes in lower part of the road require attention. Opunake - Stratford Road From Auroa Road to Mr Mortou's property will not be ; sufficiently dry for metal until October. To put the same road in order from Aurua Road to Mr Harrie'B would cost £l2. Watino Road —Amount of loan required to do work asked for by settlers would cost £soo,~including cost of raising loan and expending same. Glenn Road—D.P. moneys are now available for going on with the work. luaha Road—D.P. Moneys are now available for same purpose. Kiri Road—Bushfelling contracts have been thrown up by the contractors who have forfeited their deposits. Fresh tenders have been called. £BOOO loan —report on.

The committee appointed at last meeting made the following report, viz., "This committee recommends that pending the passing of the Local Government Bill no steps be taken to raise a loan, as the proposal would not be passed by the ratepayers, the intention of the Act being that the Main South Road will ba taken over by the Government. As a means of keeping the main roads in orde", the Board to ask Hawera County Council to retain the overdraft on main roads, and to rate Waimate to wipe off the overdraft." ' Received. LOWER GLENN ROAD. J. J. Campbell applied for the sum of £220, land revenue, to be expended on this road. Resolved, That Board is of opinion that a portion of the money should be spent on the Upper Glenn Road. WATINO ROAD. Mr McGregor attended, and asked that a loan of £4OO be raised to construct the upper part of this road from the Eltharn Road southward to one chain below the Railway Reserve, about 107 chains. Resolved, That £4OO be raised on the understanding that if the work be found to be in excess of tha amount available for expenditure the work be cut down. OEO ROAD LOAN. Ten settlers applied to the Board to have a loan of £7OO raised in order to ditch, form and metal from the Eltharn Road to Mr Bennett's corner. The foreman estimated that it would cost £BSO. Resolved, That the loan be proceeded with, provided that an exact description of the divided sections be supplied. ROWAN ROAD. Resolved, That the available land money be spent. LAND FUND ACCOUNTS. Resolved, That Messrs Borrie, Pearce and Blennerhassett be a committee to report to the Board upon the best means of adjusting the ledger accounts. TENDERS. 24, Kiri Road : Stumping, clearing and forming 25 chains—Mason and Taylor (accepted), £2 2s 6d. 23, Kiri Road: Stumping, clearing and forming 43 chains—Powell (accepted), £1 17s. 26, Kiri Road : Felling, stumping and clearing 51 chains—Sheasby and Keogh (accepted), £1 Bs. 31, Watiuo Road: Ditching and grading above Railway Reserve— Mason and Grogan (accepted), 15s and 4s. BKEET ROAD. Resolved, That a few chains of ditching near Oeo River bo cleaned out. PUKETAPU ROAD. Mr Pearce asked leave to plant sixteen feet of the roadway between his house and the cemetery. Granted. - (McCarthy-Steveuson.) FOREMAN OF WORKS. Motion that applications be called
