New Zealand' Loan and Mercantile Agency, Limited. Butter.—There was an improved demand generally at the commencement of the month, but latteily the market has been extremely depressed and values have marked a sharp decline both for Continental and Australasian descriptions. There is considerable pressure in some quarters to effect clearances of Australasian, as stocks are very heavy for the time of year, but the demand has not been stimulated by the low prices accepted. There is a very weak feeling at the close, with •very probability of values still further receding. We quote: cwt.
