Fair Rent Bill.

The following is a copy of the circular issued to local bodies : " I am directed by the Minister of Lands to inform you that, in pursuance of a promise made to the Parliament last session, the Government is desirous of obtaining information, relative to the expediency or otherwise of a measure dealing with what is known as ' Fair Rent' of all classes of land both public and private. " By ' Fair Kent' is meant, in the cave of agricultural or pastoral land,

" The main principle of the proposed measure is lo secure a Fair Rent, as thus defined, by a review and readjustment from time to time of existing rents, at the instances of either laudlord or tenant; and in order to assi-t the Government in obtaining the requisite information you are requested to be kind enough to answer as far as you can the questions in the accompanying Schedule ' C,' and return the same to me before 15th March. 1895." The questions to he answered are : (a) " Approximate number of cases in which the rent is more than a Fair Rent as above defimd. (&)" Approximate amount per annum of such excess. (c) " Approximate number of cases in which the rout is less than a Fair Rent. (d) ''Approximate amount per annum of such deficiency." Information is asked for in regard to agricultural land, pastoral land, suburban land, town land, including such tenements as shops, warehouses, &c.
