Cricket.
HAWERA v. OPUNAKE. Op-na'.e played their first match of the stcond round for the senior championship on Saturday against Ha\tera, on the local ground. The pitch, after a good i oiling, was got into fair order, and the day being all that was desired for cricket, a good game resul'ed. Hawera won the t <ss and d' ci.ied to take the field, while Edmonds and Wagstaff faced the trundling of Bayly and Mills. Wagfctaff was soon taken by a ball from Bayly, and his place was taken by A. Good. The latter and Edmonds got set for a time, and by good hitting and careful play contributed 2G and 20 respectively. The remainder of the team failed to make a stand, and the innings closed for 71. An adjournment was made for lunch, which was generously supplied free by Mrs Kennedy, and is quite sufficient guarantee that ail fared sumptuously. The neccssaiy liquids required throughout the day were also supplied by Mrs Kennedy free, and the thanks of the club and members are due to her for her thoughtfulness and kindness. On resuming play Syme aud Pratt weut to the wickets, faciug the bowling of Edmonds and Wagstaff. To the surprise of everyone the team were all disposed of for 37, F. Moore (15) and H. W. Moore (7) being the only men to make any kiud of a stand. Edmonds secured eight wickets for 21, and Wagstaff one for eight. The visitors retaliated in the second innings of Opunake, when Pratt and Mills got them out for the small ecore of 13. Pratt, who was bowling fast but varying from the wicket, got six for four runs, aud Mills three for six. With 48 runs to win Pratt and H. W. Moore commenced the second innings for Hawera, and both played nice cricket for 22 and 26 respectively, the former being clean bowled by Wagstaff. F. Moore filled the gap, and a four hit from his brother brought the total to 51, the visitors thus winning by nine wickets and four ruus. Following are the scores :

The following teams were picked on Saturday evening to play in the trial match on the 15th instant between Probables and Possibles, prior to the match with the Fijians :—Probables : Ogle, A. Bayly, G. T. Bayly, Mills, Heenan, E. B. Lusk, H. W. Moore, Pratt, Wakelin, T. Campbell, and Stonex. Possibles : Price, McCarthy, Gillespie, Wagstaff, Harden, G. Syme, F. Moore, Dr Westenra, Haggett, W. Mannix, Coutts. THE ENGLISHMEN IN AUSTEALIA. The fourth test match was commenced in Sydney on Friday, and a heavy shower fell half an hour before the game started. Stoddart won the toss and sent the Australians to the wicket, their innings closing for 284 ; Graham 105, A. Trott (not out) 85. The Englishmen have one wicket down for 11 runs, and the game was adjourned owing to the weather.
