MANAIA.

(Our Own Correspondent.)

The Town Board had a full meeting on Wednesday last at 7.30 p.m. It was proposed to strike a town rate of |d and a county rate of j£d for the period ending 31st March, 1895. An estimate of proposed work was presented by the Works Committee, and fully approved, the amount calculated as being available for expenditure during that period being £l9B. Several changes on the roll w r ere consented to. The clerk was instructed to arrange with Mr T. R. Exley with reference to amount claimed on account of cow sold in Manaia pound. Mr Budge took exception to drainage running from certain tenements into the Main Street. Mr Benporath proposed to put large stones at the corner of each footpath to prevent vehicles from turning corners too sharply and cutting up the side paths. Mr Milroy brought forward the matter of the verandah at Mr McCarthy’s new premises having been erected without any application being made to the Board. At the Domain Board meeting Mr Benporath vacated his seat, and in the absence of other members of the Manaia Cycling Club applied for monetary assistance to form a threelap cycling track in the Domain.—The Domain Board, however, being already indebted to the Town Board to the extent of £ls, the application could not be entertained. Over £6O has now r been collected towards the cycle track.
