Opunake Town Board.

The above Board met on Monday, November Present Messrs Middleton) chairman), Rogers, DJ McGregor, O’Brien, and Scccombe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence from Public Trustee with reference to gorse grabbing. Being inquired into. From Opunake String Band applying for hall on Boxing Night. Granted. From Opunake Town Baud, applying for ball on Ist January, 1895. Granted. From Mr Guy requesting use of hall for may-pole practice. Granted. From Committee Wesleyan Ba/aar, applying for Hall on 18th' and 14th December. Granted. Tenders had been accepted for footpath, Domet Street (W. Costello, £6 -19 s 8d) and for gorse grubbing (Geo. Ellis, 12s per chain). The committee’s action was confirmed.

Resolved that notice be given to hotelkeepers to discontinue running drainage on to the public street. [McGregor- Scccombe.] Resolved that application bo received for leasing the pound for three years. Poundkeeper may be appointed ranger. [Rogers-Middlefon.] Resolved that the action of the chairman and Mr Rogers regarding signing cheques during last month be confirmed. [Rogers-Middleton.] Resolved that the chairman bo appointed to sign cheques in conjunction with the treasurer. [Rogers-O’Brien.] Resolved that Messrs Rogers and O’Brien be appointed to sign contracts. [McGregor-Seccombe.j Mr McGregor gave notice of motion that a rate of in the £ be struck for current year. Resolved that a letter be sent to the Public Trustee drawing his attention to the amount of open land between Waiau and Taungatara, which is unoccupied either by Europeans or Maoris, and requesting that steps be taken to throw it open for settlement. [McGregor-Rogers.] Resolved that several wells which are on the Board’s property, and unprotected, be filled in. The following accounts were passed for payment: E. Mathers, 8s ;J. Guy, £l2; W. Costello, £6 lls 9d; Wilsons and Horton, £1 4s 6d ; R. Smith, £2 9s ; W. Pettigrew, 7s. Brightwell, 17s 2d; Opunake Times, 9s Gd; Returning Officer, £2 18s.
