The local fovwaifb were guite a match, and the visitors were beaten ;'n every department of tbe game. The local backs were far superior, passing beautifully and fairly outstripping Wales •i.i speed and smartness. Merewood, McGovern and Gray scored one each and Darcy two, all emanating from passing rushes. Three trio, were convert'd. Just on the call of time Wyburd scored for the visitors, Cobb failing. Although the weather was threatening, over 1509 people were present, and were extremely impartial. The game wos fought goo 1-naturedly, although rather r ng' at times. NeSout' V.V.B£ commenced we’. : v' the grand May of tho opposi g lor aids told its-talc, and m the sad spe' 1 . the vsi tors were continually m tho defcnslv?. Wairarapa went in for passing, and ca. riedr.il before them. The New South Wales o cks were splendid on the defence, '< he players’ collaring being greatly ad - lied. The slippery state of the ground was against their brilliant play, and suited the L:r.l men. The visitors allege they have never been so closely matched in the forward division as in the Wairarapa match. McMahon, Cobb, and Lusk did good work for the losers’ backs and saved them from danger time after time. Lane, Henlon, and ‘Wyburd were the best of the forwards.

The Hawke’s Bay reps had an unique record. They flayed three matches against the Thames, Auckland, and Poverty Bay teams, and they all ended in draws. They did not score a pcL*.
