Attempted Suicide.
Word w r as received in Opunake yesterday that Mr Pearson, foreman for the Taranaki County Council in the Parihaka Riding, made an attempt to commit suicide on Wednesday night. From particulars to. hand we learn that he was employed on the road as usual on Wednesday, and in lifting some heavy weight he strained himself. When Mr Stanley Shaw, who was selling stock for Mr Newton King at P.ahotu, was returning to New Plymouth he saw him lying on the road side. They got Mr Pearson into their" buggy and drove him to his bouse at Warea, one of the occupants of tb« buggy riding his horse home for him. During the night he sat up in bed, and this awoke Mrs Pearson, who enquired what was wrong. He replied hrwas all right, and she went to sleep again. Shortly afterwards she was woke up again, and on striking a light found herself covered with blood, and then saw. that he had attempted to cut his throat. She rau to a neighbor's fe" assistance, and when they returned they found he bad got out of bed and was down at the river trying to drown himself. He was taken into the New Plymouth Hospital yesterday.
