Concert.

The very inclement weather of Wednesday evening prevented many from attending the concert tendered by Mrs Orchard and her pupils, half the net proceeds of which are to go to the Fire Brigade funds. Mrs Orchard’s fame as a teacher is well known already, and the performance on Wednesday, when it is considered as the result of only three months’ tuition, was very creditable. The following programme was given:—Piano solo, Master M. Fowler ; “ chorus, “ Now is the Month of Maying, company; song, “Three Little Clouds,” Miss E. Humphries, was sung very sweetly ; song, “ Killarney,” Miss M. Pepperiil; piano, solo, Master J. Humphries; song, “ The Holy City,” Mr E. 0. Raikes (this was the best item of the evening); song’ “ Love’s Golden Dream,” Miss Pepperiil, well rendered; piano duet, Mrs Orchard and Miss Aiken, very good ; song, in character, “ When the Clock Strikes Ten ” (encored); song, “ They all Love Jack,” Master J. Humphries (encored); piano duet, Misses Pepperiil; chorus, “ Music on the Waves,” company ; song, “ Points of View,” Miss M. Des Forges; song, “ A Starry Night for a Ramble,” Master, J. Humphries (encoredj; piano solo, Mr C. Raikes; song, “ Comrades,” Mr Brewer ; song (with invisable chorus), “ Dreaming of Home,” Miss Aiken, very nicely rendered; piano solo, Miss E. Humphries; duet, “ The Pilot,” Miss Pepperiil and Mr Raikes, very well given, the voices blending well; piano solo, Master M. Fowler.

Mrs Orchard played the accompaniments throughout the evening very tastefully. The hall was then cleared for dancing which was kept up till an early hour.
