The Steeplechase was the greatest race of the day, and it is a long time since such a sight was witnessed at Randwick. Following are the details : Shorts ; five furlongs. Mr T. W. Hungerford’s b c Waka■watea, by Aptemont—Becky Sharp, 7st 31b 1 The New Zealander, whose starting price was 20 to 1, kept in the front division to the distance, then came away and won easily. Time, Imin Usees. Oaks. Acmena (Ellis) 1 Time. 2min Slsec. Spring Maiden Stakes. The Possible 1 Time, 2miu 4Usee. Metropolitan Stakes. Projectile (Luckman) ... ... 1 Lady Trenton (Gough) .:. ... 2 Paris (Fielder) ... ... ... 3 Also ran : Jeweller, Marvel, Pilot Boy, Oxide, Loyalty, Fiorrie, The Trier, Eureka, Nightgale, Albercore, Royal Rose, Babel, Pharamond, First Shot, Yolney. Honor, Glenuillia, Bright, and Qeotus. Projectile came with a splendid rush at the finish, and, passing the leaders, won very easily. Steeplechase. Mr W. Douglas’ Mutiny, list 11b 1 Helios, 12st 91b 2 Sneaker, lOst 3 Fourteen started. Betting : Ito 1 Prodigal, 7 to 1 Ontario, and 10 to 1 the others. From a good start, Mutiny alternately led with Castlebar. Waterbury refused* early in the race, and Tatta in the last round. At tho sheds Outres, Sneaker, and Helios closed on Mutiny, who had attained a decided lead, and a desperates race homo followed. The placed horses took the last jump together, Helios looking like a winner, but Mutiny came gallantly on and won by a short head, admid great cheering, Sneaker being half a length away.
