FISH TALES
AND “FAIRY” TALES (By “Arrissimo” My old friend “Fly Catcher”, is a bit of an authority on quite a number of subjects. Fishing is generally his favourite topic, and now arid again he does catch a few, but lately, however, he Alias not been meeting with the success that o-ne of his ability and ardour should do. Incidentally he kind of mates up with old Hori. Well, everyone knows Hori as the local—well we won’t name the gentleman.
Reverting back to the piscatorial side all big fish have a pilot or sucker, even the big shark caught by Peter and Co. the other week-end had. one of these interesting understrappers. It is quite understandable that. “Fly Catcher” should endeavour to follow in the footsteps ox his illustrious mate.
Last Tuesday, being at a loose cud and having read in our local news column about the week-end exploits of a fishing party to White Island he was kind of peeved, so he thought he would ‘jack up’ a bit of news of his own, especially for m,y .benefit. Indeed the poor chappie went- to quite a bit of bother to make it look authentic. I duly arrived and was told the great news that “Miss New Zealand” had arrived in Opotiki; name, what she was wearing, and her wonderful personality, oven to her escort. “You must meet her”, I was directed, and asked to publish lhc glad tidings. It was the only topic for quite an hour or more. In fact, it was just a little bit overdone and I got a bit sceptical, but not- to spoil the effect I started to question “Fly Catcher”,—and what a. glowing picture he painted of her sophisticated beauty and personality.. One was amazed at his vocabulary especially when he mentioned about her airs. It was then Terrance let the “cat out of the bag” and the erstwhile news vendor cried a halt and left without tt word to say.
