GOOD WIN TO MAORI TEAM FINE CENTURY BY ROBB The outstanding features of last Saturday’s game were a fine opening partnership of 70 by Warren and Robb and a splendid 116 not out by J. Robb. The Maori team batted first and Warren and Robb gave the side a great start, both men batted nicely and revealed some fine scoring strokes. Warren was eventually, bowled with his score at 41.. Robb carried on confidently and at lunchtime was 64 not out;. With good support from Periniki and Mareroa, Robb made merry after lunch and treated all bowlers alike playing some amazingly strong shots. His last twelve scoring'strokes were 5 sixes, 6 four and a single. The last wicket fell with the splendid total of 214. Wickets were taken by Mason 3, ,Beattie 3, Badeley 2 and Clement

Left with 85 minutes to score 214 runs the position was pretty hopeless from the start, but the sporting spirit of the game was carried out and no suggestion of playing for the draw was made. Al] the batsmen played their natural cricket with the result that batting two men short the lust wicket fell in the last over of the day at 92. The only batsmen able to get going were Beattie 17, Badeley 35 and Rowe 19. The fielding of the Maori players was very good and their example of keenness could quite well be followed by many of the regular players. Warren and Joe Moore bowled very well and accounted for the majority of the wickets, Warren taking 4 and Moore 3. A return match will most likely be played early in the New Year. Next Saturday will bo the last match before the team is selected to play Whakatane on the 13th. December and it is hoped that all the players will be on hand on Saturday. No special teams will be picked for this trial match but teams will be selected on the ground. The starting time for all matches is 10 a. m.
