SCOUT NEWS

YEAR’S ACTIVITIES SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION The final meeting of the Scout Committee for the year was held in the S.A.. Hall on Thursday last. Tho special object of ’this meeting was the finalising of, the appeal recently launched for funds to enable the Scout troop to obtain the necessary equipment for wider training. The chairman, Mr. C. Parkinson, expressed his satisfaction at the result of the effort, which realised the magnificent sum of £37 15s 3d, thanks to the generosity of those interested in the boys. A special vote of thanks was accorded "Mr. C'laydon whose efforts had realised the excellent amount of £22 7s. The recent paper drive carried out by the Scout troop realised tho gratifying sum of £7 6s 3d and they hoped to repeat this effort early in the New Year. As a result of the finance realised, the Scout troop has now been able to acquire twelve inkers tents and much other necessary equipment. Plans for the Scout activities extending over the next few months were laid before the committee by Scoutmaster W. Newell and Commissioner Jones.

After some discussion by members of (be committee on different matters concerning the future activities of the Scouts, the Commissioner announced that' a public welcome was to be given to Senior Scout Gordon Gault who had recently returned from the Scout Jamboree in France. This is to be held in the S.A. Hail on December 11th. in the evening and a demonstration by the Scout troop is to take place. In concluding the meeting the chairman expressed his • thanks to all who had worked so hard and willingly for the Scout movement. A special welcome was also given to Assist-Scoutmaster John Fleming who had again taken up his activities after considerable previous experience, with the Scouts. After wishing the members of the committee and all present the season’s greetings the chairman declared meeting closed. It is hoped to again resume activities towards the end of January, 19-18.
