“Operation Bottle.”
Either the two boys who made the Avon River (Christchurch) disgorge a vast number of beer bottles on a recent morning kucw r of a spot where a convivial gathering had been held on the banks of the stream or they had been carrying out a careful reconnaissance for some time. Their plan of attack was worthy of greater things. The smaller of the pair was the vanguard, taking up strategic points on bridges and along the bank. His task was to point out bottles to the main body of the force in the river, who, with his trousers well rolled up was retrieving bottle?- from the shailow'er portions of the stream and dragging others w'ithin reach with a rake. About 20 minutes of this combined operation yielded two hand-carts filled with empties.
