TIKI MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB
The first bike leaving at JO u.m. marked the beginning of a very successful club run to Waimanu ou Sunday. The purpose of the run was to determine how well the liners could judge an average speed, so all speedometers were sealed, watches removed, and the riders were given a speed to average, and were despatched at 5-minute intervals. The results were as follows: L. Dunlap. 8.5. A., 25 m.p.li. (speed set), 28.1 m.p.li. (speed averaged). G Dunlop 8.5. A., 20 m.p.li, 25.5 m.p.h., T, Parkinson 8.5. A., 25 m. p.h,, 26 m.p.h., F Brown 8.5. A., 20 m.p.h., 28.7 m.p.h., B. Anderson Panther, 20 m.p.h,, 25.5 m.p.h.. K. Pera Matchless 25 m.p.h., 27.5 m.p. h., I. Parkinson Matchless 30 m.p. h., 30.5 m.p.h., H. Thompson Ariel 20 m.p.li., 23 m.p.h. T. Parkinson’s performance was the best. At a short hill trial held at Waimana, I. Parkinson (Matchless) and B. Payne (8.5. A.) equalled for top score. On the run home the bikes were spaced at 50 yard intervals behind the club captain (I. Parkinson) who maintained a steady 25 m, p.h. to Opotiki. This ride was another effort by the club to instil in its members the • need for safety on the road at all times.
