Chamber of Commerce. The monthly general meeting of the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce will be held in the Opotiki Borough Council Chambers on Thursday evening at 8 o’clock. No Election Alterations, The official counts in the borough and county in connection with the recent local body elections huyc not resulted in any of those returned in the preliminary counts being unseated although the voting has varied somewhat. In the county Mr. Samucil Maxwell has moved up to second position as a county hospital board representative. Shipping. The m.v, Motu arrived at Opotiki on Saturday with general cargo. Slip endeavoured to leave on the return trip at daylight this morning with a full cargo of wool and butter but missed the tide and is expected to cross the bar at 3.30 o - clock this afternoon. Rain Wanted, Following several weeks of dry weather most of the district is now feeling the effects of lack of rain and the growth of grass lias been considerably slowed up. Cultivated areas however oil the flat appear to have retained the moisture well but crops oil the lighter country arc badly in need of early rain.
Surplus Horses. Good work lias been done by tho county ranger in recent weeks in rounding up large numbers of straying horses on the Coast road. Most of the horses have been sold by auction and have been taken out of the district. It is stated that the Coast could carry a lot more useful stock were, more of these poor class horses taken away from the district or otherwise disposed of.
