COUPON SAVING RUATORIA’S EFFORT All records were eclipsed in the coupon collection for the food-for-Britain campaign in the Gisborne district for tho period ending November 8, when more meat coupons than ever ?before were handed in throughout! the.district and Ruatoria collected more coupons than one post office had ever done previously. In all,' 113,125 meat coupons, approximately 12,000 more than had ■ever been collected in the district in one week before, were cancelled in the period. This number is equivalent to £IB6B 15s in cash value. In addition, 1377 butter coupons, equal to 688(lb of butter, were cancelled. At Ruatoria, the postmaster, Mr. Ward, and his staff made a special canvass of the district for coupons, and their effort beat that of Tolaga Bay, Te Araroa and Tikitiki, In all, 51,946 meat coupons were surrendered to the Ruatoria Post Office. TJio community consists of 260 households, which handed in coupons of an equivalent cash value of £865 15s 4d.
The school children in the Opotiki area also made a large contribution to the 10,522 meat and 106 butter coupons cancelled by that office. Children of the Nukuhou School handed in the 106 butter coupons as well as 648 meat coupons. Te Ivaha School children collected 3723 meat coupons; Raukokore Native School, 2222 meat coupons ; and the Opotiki District High School, 2400 meat "coupons. .
The largest number of butler coupons was cancelled at To Karuka, where 614 butter and 11,622 meat coupons were surrendered. Waimana surrendered 58 butter and 918 meat coupons.
Last Week’s Results Despite tho exceptionally large number of meat and butter coupons which have been collected in recent weeks the various areas in the Gisborne postal district continue to produce excellent results. For the week ending November 15, 25,987 meat coupons, equivalent to £433 2s 4d in cash value, and 525 butter coupons, or 262.Ub of butter were handed in in the. Gisborne district in the food for Britain appeal. Gisborne handed in 179 butter and 10,033 meat coupons. Opotiki was next with 60 butter and 9,087 incut coupons. Of this number Opotiki D. 11.5. handed ill 1208 meat coupons; Oinariiiiiiitii School, 6649 meal coupons. Parishioners of the Church of England helped to swell the Gisborne total by handing in 6708 meat coupons. Waimana contributed 40 butter and 300 meat coupons.
