FINAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
MAYOR’S REVIEW At the conclusion of last Tuesday night’s meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council, the Mayor, Mr. T. G. Johnson, reminded Councillors that it was the final monthly meeting of the council prior to the election,. He thanked members of the council for their co-operation during the past three and a-half years and said the council, had been a very happy one and there had been no ill-feeling amongst them. They could look back and see something accomplished during their term of office and residents had told him they were very satis: fied with the progress made, especially in regard to sealing of the streets. He wished those seeking re-election the best of luck and hoped all would again be returned. In thanking the Mayor for his remarks, Or. Davidson said there was one thing he was pleased about and that was there was no question of politics and he hoped that there would be none in future. Cr. F. H. Roe thanked the Mayor for his leadership during his term of office. He felt the greatest compliment electors could pay Mr. Johnson would be to help him unopposed as Mayor.. Crs. Webb and Whitfield also briefly thanked - the Mayor for liis remarks.
Mr. W. H. Briggs also spoku a few words and Said too many chatigcs on a council was not always tho best thing for the smooth working of the council. He thanked the Mayor for his kind references to himself and staff.
