LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

INCREASED INTEREST Interest in the local body elections has quickened considerably in the last few days and in some instances competition is likely to bo very strong. In the borough no further nominations have been received for the mayoralty other than that of Mr. T. (jl. Johnson. For. the council, Messiv 11. 11. Davidson, G. L. Day, F H. lloe, T. Webb, R. J. Whitfield.and E. C. East have been nominated. It is understood that other nominations are “on. the way” so that a good contest is assured. Power Board (1): W. T. Burrett Hospital Board (2): T, G. Johnson F. H. Roe. In the county there is a likelihood of more than one riding be-ing-.in the position of having just the required number to fill the vacancies. Up to 2.30 p.m. to-day the following nominations had been received : Coast Riding (2 required): A. E. Blake. Waiotahi Riding (2): C. T, Clark, H. D. Bennett, A. E. Martin. Ohiwa Riding (1): V.
