MONTHLY MEETING Mlt. II I’LTQ UIST'S STATEMENT The monthly meeting of tho Opotiki County Council was held in the Council chambers to-day. Present: Air. W\. A. Gault (chairman), Ors. G. J. Neilson. \Y. A. Butler. T. Burke, A. IS.. Blake, J. •McDonnell, G. S. Moody. Air. J. T. Merry (clerk) and Air. W.. W. lepton (engineer) were also present. 'The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. Inward Correspondence Air. A. G. Hultquist, AI.P., wrote at length re the public meeting recently held. A telegram was enclosed, from Hon. B. Semple, Alinister of Public Works and copies of various letters. The letter dealt with the railway andl road sealing to Tanoatua. A map showing road census figures was. enclosed. Tho chairman said there wa,s no doubt Air. Hultquist had done a lot of work. Or. Butler said that the letter was a good one and no doubt- Air. Hultquist. had gone to a lot of trouble. -• The opinion was expressed that, tho question of the railway should he dropped at the present time, but a good road should be pressed for. The chairman said that the idea of tin 1 meeting was not to express dissatisfaction but to make requests to the Government. It was deckled to write thanking. Air. Hultquist for his hard work and to wish Mir. Hultquist the compliments of tho season. The secretary of the Patriotic Committee wrote asking for re-considera-tion of its decision not to assist in the Centennial liability. A statement ot accounts was enclosed. It was decided to refer the matter to a full meeting of the council. Mrs. C\ Scott, Orete. wrote asking

The secretary of the Hospital Board wrote re the complaint concerning tho non-admission, of patients 1 stating that an explanation had been forwarded to ■the whiter.—Received. Air.
