RE-RUNNING OF RACE AN EXCITING TIME Tin points race, which was abandoned an November 19, was resailed on the Opotiki harbour yesterday. The race commenced at 3 p.m. Seven boats faced the starter being boats in the 1-1-11. and over class. These were: Opah (S. N. Chat field) scr., 4 lirs. J 4 min. oseev. Endeavour (C. Uamithors) scr. Leilani (W. 19. Danner) scr. hit buoy. J’opeye (C. Brownie) scr. 4hr. llini. Phantom (C. Cedeinan). -Mario (P. 'Himewiiii) Bm., 41i. 28m. los. Jsaroro (I*. Warren) loin., Hi. 39m. os. • Tile race started with practically no .wind! and the boats were )lightly spread rjiiit at the start. When most of the boats had completed one lap, and were away on the second, a heavy shower of rain was experienced. Alder tlie passing of this shower, the wind freshened to half gale force, and alter rounding the huov at the bar Phantom’s mainsail split in half and the boat, bad to, retire. While gybing around the buoy at the bathing shed point, Kndcavour’s boom skied and her mainsail fouled) in the crosstroex. rendering the bout more or less out ol control. A sudden puff of wind .upset this craft, whose crew were all picked up by Phantom, who was coming holme under jury rig. All the other boats finished without- mishap however. The placitigs were: — Opah (S. N. G’liatfield) 225 pt.s. .. 1 Popeye (C. Brownie) 177 pts. ... 2 Alarie (P. Herowini) 88 pts 3 Good .work was done by Mr. A. McGregor, who towed the disabled boats home.A friendly race for “Idle Along’’ class boats, resulted in Silver Wings being the winner.
