Shipping. The o.v. Otimai left Opotiki for Auckland on Saturday, while the o.v. Maintain arrived here on the same title.
Patriotic Committee. A meeting of the Opotiki Patriotic Committee will be held in the Mission Hall to-morrow night.at. 8 o’clock. All centennial members are urged to attend, and an invitation lias been extended to members of the Vigilance Committee to be present. Temperatures. North Island temperatures at 9 o’clock an Saturday morning were as follows :—Oastlepoint 08 degrees, Opotiki and Napier 64 v Wellington 02, Auckland! 01. . Heavy Rainstorm. . > Accompanied by a strong northeasterly wind, heavy rain fell in the Opotiki district last night and this morning, the total rainfall for the 24 hours ending at 9 n.ni. to-day being l'.22in. Stone fruit trees again suffered badly, fruit being blown off in big quantities, drape vines also received a severe buffeting. Instances have been reported of windows having been blown in by the force of the heavy gusts.
