RAIDERS SHOT DOWN BXCO INTER OFF COAST OTHER AIR ACTIVITY LONDON. Nov. 29. A Royal Air Force lighter shot down a German plane off the Northumbrian coast. Tbo total number of -German machines brought down since October lti is at least 2J. Life boats and Royal Air Force machines searched the sea unsuccessfully f° l ' the raider, which was a German Heinkel. There hud previously been a thrilling light. The Hcinkel waited until the Royal Air Force fighter was within -lOOvds. before firing with a rear, gun spitting a stream of tracer bullet,s. Tin- lighter closed in and the Meinkel was then driven into the sea. It- is believed! that two British fighters engaged another Hcinkel o' cr a south-east- Scottish town. Ihe lleinkel apparently escaped southward. There was also aerial activity ue.u the Firth of Forth. Anti-aircraft- and machine-gun fire was heard Irom batteries along the Thames estuary. Aeroplanes were not heard, but later several Royal Air Force machines appeared. Air raid warnings were not sounded.
