WAIKATO J. BAY OF PLENTY BIG SCORE BY WAIKATO GAME SPOILT BY RAIN In spite of the showery conditions on Sunday morning, the friendly match between Waikato and Bay of Plenty cricket representatives, took place as scheduled in the Government Grounds, Rotorua. The visitors batted first, occupying the crease until 4.15, by which time they had.-tlie large total of 351 runs with bright and forceful cricket. This left liwie time for the Bay to hat and rain stopped play at 4.45, when one wicket had been lost for 13 runs. Although none of the batsmen managed to- reach the century, there were several large scores in the Waikato* innings, that of 70 of R. Clough topping the list. Ho was followed by J. D. Bright with a 62, A. Lissette with 4.3, P. Jordan with 39, 4 • Everest with 37’ J. Aitken with 30, and B. Bade.ley with 28. Only two “ducks” were made, that of the opening and last batsmen. Conditions were difficult all day, light showers making the ball greasy and giving the batsmen the advantage. R. Smith was the most successful howler, taking seven wickets for 102, and howling 14 overs, while E. Wells captured three for 73, in 16 overs. Bay of Plenty opened their innings, well when N. W. Bavley sent the hall to the boundary for his first scoring, shot, following this up jvith two singles and another four, after which lie was bowlcdl by Everest for 10. in the meantime, his partner, L. Spring, had made three singles, making tin* total 13. Owing to occurrence of a heavy shower of rain, however, play was abandoned without further delay. Following are the detailed scores:— WAIKATO T.
