MR. MAUI DELAMERE An “evening” to ■ Mr. Maui Do lain ere was held at Mr. Hob Hudson's residence last Wednesday. There was a good muster of Territorials; also several members of the management committees of the Opotiki Rugby Union and Amateur Athletic Club. Cla.pt. 0. D. Brown spoke on behalf of the Territorials, of which Maui Delautero lias been a member for a number of years. Mr. C. Tabb referred to athletics, in whic h Maui Delamore was greatly interested!, having been a, competitor and a member of the committee of the Athletic Club. Mr- I). Beattie made reference to j> Maui Dchunero’s activities in the football world. He had been a senior representative player for several years and a member of the .management committee of the Rugby Union last season, 'representing the To Huia Club. Mr. Tim Hudson spoke of their guest’s popularity both among the pakelia and the Maori. Alter supper. C'apt. Brown, on behalf of the Territorials, presented Mr. Delamere with a pencil, and Mr. Hickey, on behalf of the Rugby Union ami Athletic Club, presented him with a wallet. Items were given by Mrs. Ttuvhai, Airs. M. Dela mere. Aiessis. R. Smith, N. Griffon. 15. Roberts. Sotheran, W. Perfect and D. Burton. A happy evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Air. Delamore is entering camp as a member of the Maori Battalion and' Ob' diki residents "-ill wish him the best of luck during the absence. On the football held and as an athlete “Maui” has set a splendid example to other young men. He lias been noted lor his clean tactics and in the various athletic events last season wa,s easily the most improved competitor in the club.
