YACHTING

YESTERDAY’S RACE Ten boats faced the starter in the. race which was held in the Opotiki harbour yesterday morning. The race was run on the Mark Foy .system with a variable wind with a southerly tendency. The starters were:—L‘Oiseau (A. W. McGregor) 20 mins., Marie (I\ Warren), Q.T. (E. Salt),' Flying Cloud (It. Lambie) 9 mins., Phantom (C. Cederman), Manene (T. N. Hill) 8 mins., Silver Wings (I). Talbot) 7 mins., Popeye. (H. G. Simpson). 3jniins., Opali (S. N. Chatfield, Endeavour (C. Carruthers) scr. The race was three tiihes around, approximately 5 miles. On rounding the buoy at the junction of the rivers, E. Salt, sailing Q.T., had the misfortune to capsize while holding third position. Owing to the wind being very erratic, there were no spectacular finishes as would probably have been the case if a steady wind had been in evidence.

The platings were:— Popeye (H.G. Simpson) 11.49 .... 1 Silver Wings (D. Talbot) 11.52 ... 2 Opali (S. N. Chatfield!) 11.34 ...... 3

The next race will be held on Sunday next at 3 p.m.
